Our collection of courses for the orientation training of Adult Day Services - Direct Care Staff in Iowa is designed to align with the requirements stated in Rule 481-67.9 - Staffing and Rule 481-70.30 - Dementia-specific education for program personnel of the Iowa Administrative Code.
This collection contains 18 courses, totalling 20 hours of training, including 8 hours of dementia training. The courses in this collection cover a number of topics including, residents’ rights, observation and reporting, changes in body conditions that must be reported, the reporting of elder abuse, assisting with ADLs and iADLs, infection control, emergency response, pain management, and assisting with medication self-administration. The included 8 hours of dementia-specific training includes, an introduction to dementia care, communication strategies in dementia care, person centered dementia care including working with families, activities for older adults with dementia, dementia-friendly communities, assisting older adults with dementia with bathing and personal care, a gentle approach to dementia care, and managing challenging behaviors in dementia.
