Universal Precautions

Course Description

Universal Precautions refers to a set of preventive measures designed to prevent the transmission of diseases from one individual to another in healthcare settings. These precautions are based on the principle that all blood, body fluids, secretions, excretions except sweat, non-intact skin, and mucous membranes may contain transmissible infectious agents. The precautions involve the use of protective barriers such as gloves, gowns, aprons, masks, or protective eyewear, which can reduce the risk of exposure of the healthcare worker's skin or mucous membranes to potentially infective materials.
